Layout and excavation
We mark the shape, call for utility locates and excavate to the depth the application needs — deeper for driveways than for patios.

Base and compaction
Granular base is placed in lifts and plate-compacted. This is the step that decides whether pavers stay flat in five years, so we don't shortcut it.

Laying and edging
Pavers or blocks are laid to pattern, cut clean at the edges, and locked in with edge restraint.

Jointing and finish
Polymeric sand is swept in and set, the surface is compacted once more and the site is cleaned up.

- Why do paver patios sink?
- Almost always because the base was too shallow or wasn't compacted in lifts. Edmonton's clay soil moves, so we build and compact base properly before a single paver goes down.
- Can hardscaping be installed in fall?
- Yes. We install right up until the ground freezes, and fall is often the easiest time to book.
- Do retaining walls need drainage?
- Any wall holding back soil does. We build in drainage rock and a drain line so water pressure doesn't push the wall out over winter.
- How long does a patio take?
- Most residential patios are finished in two to five days depending on size, access and whether steps or walls are part of the job.
